Difference Between Osteopathy and Chiropractic
Many a times when people suffer from any kind of pain in the back or neck or any other type of mechanical injury, they get confused about the type of treatment they might need. Thus it is extremely important for a person to understand the differences between osteopathy and chiropractic before deciding about the course of treatment for their condition. Chiropractors and osteopaths tend to focus on almost similar conditions whose techniques can be compared easily for understanding. Although the ultimate goal of both the chiropractors and osteopath is to provide relief to the patient, their technique of therapy is quite different.
Understanding chiropractic and osteopathy
The main focus of a chiropractic is on the spine and the alignment of the vertebral column whereas the osteopaths focus more on the restoration of the blood flow. Osteopathy centres on the well-being of the entire body and focuses on all aspects of the body including the bones, muscles, ligaments and other connective tissues. It is a completely manual treatment where the osteopaths use various techniques for the improvement in circulation ad stimulation of stretch reflex. On the other hand chiropractic treatment focuses mainly on the relationship between the nerves, muscles and tendons by putting special emphasis on the spine.
Major difference between osteopathic and chiropractic treatment
There are several major differences between osteopathy and chiropractic treatment. However one of the most prominent difference between these two is that chiropractors focus mainly on the spine and spinal injuries whereas osteopathy takes a holistic approach and concentrates on the entire body.
The second basic difference between chiropractic and osteopathy lies in their method of treatment. Osteopathy uses a wide range of techniques for treatment, whereas chiropractic usually perform spinal adjustments as their method of treatment. In conclusion, it can be said that although both the modes of treatment have several similarities, the difference between them is quite important to understand in order to get a correct treatment.
